The Twisting Den

Hurricane returned to the den, giving Ken'ichi and Lucha a friendly glance before squeezing through the somewhat narrow tunnel and breaking into the sandy cave. The male sniffed the air with a sad sigh. It still had a faint lingering scent of Fos, and Enzie... and even a very fanit trace of his mother. Shaking his head, he sat down. Dwelling would not help his case.

Kai gave himself a thorough washdown when he arrived at the location everyone else seemed to be going. Usually, he wasn't very picky about his looks, but like most wolves, he doesn't like feeling dirty. As soon as he found some sort of lake, he would take a nice swim.

Skyfall lifted her nose up in the air, smelling a lot of wolfs. Flattening her ears, she crept towards them, hoping to give an aura that she wanted to join their pack. Ever since the humans took her away from her family, Skyfall is lonely and wants to have a home again.

Hurricane popped back out of the den as an unfamilar scent hot his nose. The Leader stalked up to a small female, eyeing her suspiciously. "Who are you?" The large male Dingo rumbled, lowering his head until his eyes locked with hers. "You're on pack territory."

"I am Skyfall," Skyfall said. "I want to join your pack, for I have none. The humans took me away from my old pack."

Inside, Skyfall felt nervous, yet brave. Perhaps she sounded confident in herself though she really wasn't.

Kai pricked his ears at the sound of conversing. He bounded away from his hiding spot to see what was going on, recognizing the words "Join" and "Pack". He needed to try again, after all, he needs one too.

He paused when he caught sight of the newcomer and leader and crouched, tucking his tail between his legs and flattening his ears in submission, hoping that the leader would know based on body posture he would do no harm.

Hurricane watched as Kai lowered himself into a submissive position, and listened as Skyfall spoke. "Hmm... okay. You're both accepted." Sensing Kai hadn't been yet.

Kai widened his eyes in shock. "That fast? Like that?" he didn't want to question too far seeing as his hunting skills still weren't at peak condition.

"Thank you." Skyfall said. She suspected it is wise to be polite to the pack leader. Skyfall dipped her head respectfully and went to find herself a den.

Hurricane nodded, his eyes narrpwing. "Unless you'd two like to rot out here, come inside the den." He growled, squeezing back inside.

Kai didn't find rotting very pleasant, and followed Hurricane inside the den, keeping his head low. "Thanks," he muttered.

Skyfall can smell many wolf scents. Soon she came upon a nice area that is unclaimed for her to make a nest. Skyfall gathered some moss, made a bed, and settled down to sleep until the next day.

Skyfall quivered with excitement: she is now a part of a pack! With a pang of sadness, Skyfall wondered if her brother and sister are doing fine back in their birthplace in their old territory.

Skyfall covered her face with her fluffy tail and closed her eyes to sleep.

Kai paused at the entrance, hesitating. Was that another Maned Wolf he saw? Intrested, he looked up and investigated. Yep, she definitely was another Maned Wolf. He was happy, but managed to keep his excitement contained. Although his curiousity was another story altogether. Perhaps he would be meeting her soon.

He wondered how she got here, all the way in Australia. Was she taken by the humans, like him? Or was she born here, with other Maned Wolves just like him? Anticipation pricked at his pelt as questions flooded into his mind.

Kai looked back inside the den, warily. His eyes drooped and his muscles were sore. Several hunts, several fails. He needed his rest.

He curled up in a spot next to the cave wall and rested his chin on his paws, thinking. As much as he usually hates company, he wouldn't mind a good friend to talk to right about now. Someone he could trust with his life, and share fun times together.

Suddenly, he shook his head. I'm a lone wolf now, there's no one out there like that.

A lone wolf indeed.

Hurricane padded up to Lucha, seeing she was at the den as well. "Oy there. How ya been?" He asked the Lead Consilium, his tone more friendly now. He had trusted Lucha with taking over his responsibilities, and she seemed to be doing a fine job.

Kai stretched his long legs and yawned. He blinked open his eyes and looked around for the leader. He must've left the den early. Shrugging, he padded outside to see him with the other Maned Wolf.

Ignoring her, he continued on his way, sniffing out for any source of prey he could find.

Skyfall woke up and stretched her legs. From a distance she saw a Maned Wolf talking to the leader of the pack. Quietly as she could, Skyfall left the Twisting Den and set off to explore her new pack's territory. Perhaps Skyfall will hunt along the way, for she is a good hunter.

Kai picked up his pace, swinging his head side to side at the scent trail of rabbit. His ears twitched with anticipation as he savored the moment, imagining the juicy meat in between his jaws. There was no time for salivating, prey awaits.

Perhaps now that he found a pack to take him in, he can start to settle down, and prove himself worthy of a rank. His long legs were perfect for covering long distances and keeping a fast pace, and his large ears could pick up almost any sound. His skills may have been dulled from his time with the humans, but he's a wolf at heart.

If he caught something, and shared it with a superior, maybe he would get at least noticed. After all, he had been hanging around for at least a week.

Crouching down in the tall grass, he inhaled the warm scent of rabbit, pinpointing its exact location. His eyes pinned with excitement as he sensed it foraging just underneath the concealment of the tree roots. If he was fast enough, he could snag it before it dashes down its burrow.

Balancing his weight evenly within his front legs and hindquarters, he held his breath, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. The undergrowth rustled, and he seized his oppertunity, lashing out it long limbs and pinning down the large hare before it could even blink.

Kai leaned over and clamped his powerful jaws around its throat, not daring to release until its heart stopped beating. When it finally died, mostly from shock, he loosened his grip to carry it out of the canopies and back towards the den. He spotted a dog that must've spoken to him before, but he may not have noticed.

From his posture and scent, this must be one of the superiors he needed to get to know. He thought for a moment, then decided to approach him with his catch. When he came within sight of him, he plopped down his hare and lowered his head as a sign of respect. Kai didn't want to give off the wrong vibe, although he will fight if it comes down to one.

"Hello, I don't believe we've met thoroughly before," he murmured. "I apologize for my abrupt leaving when you so kindly offered me help, so I guess this is my way of making up for it. My name's Kai."

Skyfall was on her way back from getting to know the territory when she detected a scent of prey: rabbit. A heartbeat later, Skyfall spotted a white rabbit hopping almost in front of her, basically asking to be caught.

Hunting instinct took over Skyfall. She crouched, and moved one paw stealthy over another. Then she pounced. The rabbit stood no chance to Skyfall's speed, for it is all over in two heartbeats.

Carrying her fresh kill, Skyfall came back to the Twisting Den. She already know the other wolf that joined the pack with her, but she doesn't know his name, for she saw him talking to another wolf she doesn't regonized.

Finding a nice place under a tree, Skyfall munched on her food. Hopefully she will get to know a few of her packmates after or during her meal.

Without a reply, he shrugged and left. He spotted the other wolf who joined and his ears pricked curiously, stomach rumbling. He hated begging, but he wasn't feeling up to hunting either.

Skyfall gazed around her as she ate, wondering which wolf she would want to know better. But as always, Skyfall has a quiet nature, and Skyfall doesn't like starting conversations.
